Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Skarżysko-Kamienna, Poland, who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Eastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument is a triangular stone structure with sharp, rising angles.  A drawing of a concentration camp with barbed wire fences and a tall chimney is engraved on the stone. At the base, a black hexagonal plaque. An additional small metal torch is affixed to one of the stone elements. The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the community's memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size.

שנספו בשואה

בשמיני עצרת

הי״ד


Translation: In memory of the martyrs/ of Skarżysko-Kamienna/ who perished in the Holocaust/ on Shemini Atzeret/ may God avenge their blood.

On the base, from the right side, in Hebrew: 

המצבה

פרי תכנונו של יוסף ארד

הבן הבכור של יעקב - משה ואסתר איזנברג

 

Translation: The monument / Designed by Yosef Arad / Eldest son of Yaakov-Moshe and Esther Eisenberg

 

On the base, from the front, in Hebrew: 

אלה אזכרה ונפשי עלי אשפכה

בלעונו זידים כעוגה בלי הפוכה

Translation: These I will remember / And my soul is poured out within me / Arrogant men swallowed us / Like a cake unturned [Lamentations Rabbah 3:58]
