Memorial to Kałuszyn Victims of the Holocaust in the Southern Tel Aviv (Holon) Cemetery, Israel, 1980s (?)

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Levin, Vladimir, 2024

Memorial Name:
No official name.

Who is Commemorated?
The Jews of Kałuszyn, Poland, who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Eastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument consists of a large stone stele topped with a relief of the community's synagogue. Two panels are attached to the central stele—one on each side—bearing metal plaques. The lower part of the central stele features an engraving of the town's synagogue. To its left stands a small dark-colored stele, and another small dark stele lies horizontally on the stepped stone base of the monument. At the front, there is a small stone structure, flanked on both sides by small stone pillars that also bear metal plaques. The monument bears Hebrewת Yiddish and English inscriptions honoring the community's memory. The name of the community is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. Inscriptions indicate that the monument contains a scroll listing the names and the ashes of the community's victims, who perished in the Holocaust.
