Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Borszczów, Poland (today Borshchiv , Ukraine), who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:

The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument consists of two slabs - a light one and a dark one. They stand on a stone base, covered with black plaque and a small slab on it. A metal fence surrounds the monument. The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the community's memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. One of the inscriptions indicates that the monument contains the ashes of the Jews, who perished in the Holocaust.

On the light slab, in Hebrew: 

 לזכר קדושי

קהילת

בורשצ'וב

גליציה

שנספו בשואה

 

שמות הקדושים

Translation: In memory of the martyrs / Of the Borshchiv community / Galicia / Who perished in the Holocaust / Names of the martyrs.

On the dark slab, in Hebrew: 

עליה לבניהם ספרו

ובניהם לבניכם

ובניכם לדור אחר

יואל

Translation:  Tell your children about it / And let your children tell their children / And their children to another generation [Joel 1:3].

On the small slab, in Hebrew: 

פ"נ

אפר

הקדושים

Translation: Here lie/the ashes/of the martyrs.
