Międzyrzec Podlaski Victims Monument in the Southern Tel Aviv (Holon) Cemetery, Israel

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Levin, Vladimir, 2024

Memorial Name:

No official name.

Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Międzyrzec Podlaski, Poland, who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives. The monument consists of four slabs, with the central one being the largest. It features a section resembling an engraving in the shape of a house with a pointed roof, as the upper part of the gravestone is shaped like a peaked roof. The other slabs resemble old, broken tombstones. The monument is set on a platform with dark stones and surrounded by seven short stone columns with memorial candle holders on top, connected with metal chains. The monument bears Hebrew and Yiddish inscriptions honoring the community's memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. Inscriptions indicate that the monument contains the ashes of the community's victims, who perished in the Holocaust.
