Horodenka Victims Monument in the Southern Tel Aviv (Holon) Cemetery, Israel

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Levin, Vladimir, 2024

Memorial Name:
No official name.

Who is Commemorated?
The Jews of Horodenka (Galicia), Ukraine (in 1939 - Poland), who perished in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, among dozens of other Holocaust memorials erected by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives.

The monument is a large dark stone slab resembling a boulder, accompanied by several smaller tombstone-shaped slabs.

At its right foot stands a white stone monument with an arched top, featuring a small metal box engraved with a Star of David between two columns. In the front, three small dark slabs also resemble small rocks. The entire complex stands on a light stone-paved base and is surrounded by a decorative metal fence with metal flames. At one corner of the fence, there is a metal plaque.
Behind the small white slab, another boulder-shaped slab features a small metal door on its back.

The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the community’s memory. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. One of the inscriptions indicates that the monument contains the ashes of the Jews who perished in the Holocaust.
