Who is Commemorated?
The Jews of Alytus (Alita), Lithuania, and the Jews of Serhei, Lithuania, who were murdered in the Holocaust.

Description:
The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, among dozens of other Holocaust memorials erected by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives.
It consists of a wide dark stone monument connected to a light stone structure. On each side stands a small stone slab bearing an engraved image of a candleholder with a lit candle. A broad lower light stone slab is placed beneath, and the entire structure rests on a light stone base with a small stone compartment.The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the memory of the community. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. One of the inscriptions indicates that the monument contains the ashes of the Jews, who perished in the Holocaust.

on the upper part of the monument, in Hebrew:

לזכר
הורינו אחינו אחיותינו ובני משפחותינו
שנרצחו בידי הנאצים ועוזריהם
מהעיר אליטה (אליטוס) ליטא
בשנות השואה הי"ד

Translation:
In memory/of our parents, brothers, sisters and relatives/who were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators/from the city of Alita (Alytus), Lithuania/in the years of the Holocaust/May God avenge their blood

on the dark monument, in Hebrew:

על אלה אני בוכיה
(איכה)

Translation:
For these I weep [Lamentations]

on the lower part of the monument, right side, in Hebrew:

ולזכר קדושי
סרחיי הי"ד

Translation:
And in memory of the martyrs/of Serhei/May God avenge their blood

on the small stone compartment, in Hebrew:

יום הזכרון
כ"ה מ' אב

Translation:
Memorial Day/25 Av

 

On the side of  in Hebrew:

פה נטמן

אפר קדושינו

[...]

Translation: Here lies/the ashes of our martyrs.

On the back of the monument, in Hebrew:

בצוע

Translation:
