Memorials Chełm Victims Monument in the Southern Tel Aviv (Holon) Cemetery, Israel
Memorial Name:
No official name.
Who is Commemorated?
The Jews of Chełm, Poland, who perished in the Holocaust.
Description:
The monument is located in the Southeastern Alley of the cemetery, among many other Holocaust memorials erected by Landsmannschaft organizations, survivors, and relatives.
It consists of a dark stone slab framed by a white stone structure with a pediment. The slab stands on a light stone base paved with pale tiles. On the right side of the base is a small stone compartment with a metal door.
At the foot of the black slab is a carved stone relief shaped like a structure with three doors, each holding a memorial candle. The entire memorial is enclosed by four dark metal pillars connected by metal chains. As can be seen in a 2003 photograph on the Memorials for Vanished Communities website, the top part of the central slab, which resembles a pediment, originally featured a carved Star of David whose dark coloration has since faded and is no longer visible today. The monument bears Hebrew inscriptions honoring the memory of the community. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size.
Inscription:
