History/Provenance

During the liquidation of the Rafalivka ghetto on August 29, 1942, the Nazis murdered about 2,500 Jews from Rafalivka and surrounding villages on the Bakhova Hora [Tsal Kaplun Foundation].

The monument was unveiled in 1999. Jewish Holocaust Survivors from Israel took part in the ceremony.

The mass graves were vandalized two times in 2018 and 2019. After the first plundering of graves, local residents organized work on the site, they gathered needed equipment, brought eight trucks of sand, and put the graves in order. The local authority contacted the police about the vandalizing. The police opened a criminal case and started investigation ["Chorni Arkheolohy..."].
