History/Provenance

There are uncertainties on the date of the mass murder at Pasvalys but no doubts over the fact of the mass murder. This hapened between  August 28 to August 31, 1941. Almost certainly Jews from surrounding districts were murdered in Pasvalys as well. The Jäger Report says 1,349 Jews were killed in Pasvalys, including 402 men, 783 women and 209 children. They were killed at two pits with a short distance between.

The monument at this place was set up at 1973. Few times there was changed plaques. The later one is put on between 2011 and 2022.

On February 18, 1993, the monument was registered in the State Cultural Register of the Republic of Lithuania as a site of national importance (no. 11073).
