Description:

The Remembrance Square consists of seven trees planted for the seven rescuers' families by the descendants of survivors, not far from the former ghetto territory. The site is at the corner of two streets - Žemaitės and S. Dagilio and the Apasčia River. There stands an information stand with the rescuers and rescued names.

2019 m. birželio 16 d. čia, buvusio Biržų žydų geto teritorijoje, pasodintas skveras, skirtas įamžinti Biržų rajono gyventojų, kurie mirties akivaizdoje neprarado drąsos ir gelbėjo žydus nuo vienos baisiausių XX a. tragedijų – Holokausto, vardus. Skverą gelbėtojų palikuonys sodino prieš Biržų r. Pakamponių miške atidengiant atnaujintą memorialą Holokausto aukoms atminti.
Memorialo statybą ir Atminimo skvero sodinimą iniciavo Abel ir Glenda Levitt (Izraelis).
Atminimo medeliais įamžinti:
Akvilina (1910-1995) ir Eduardas (1903-1991) Valantinėliai, gyvenę Dvarioniškio vienkiemyje, Biržų raj., auginę keturis vaikus: Elvyrą, Stasę, Algimantą ir Rimantą, 1941-1943 m. savo namuose slėpė Motelį Levitaną.
Akvilina ir Eduardas bei jų dukros Regina Stasė Kežienė ir Elvyra Čyžauskienė 2015 m. apdovanoti Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžiumi*.
Elzė (1894-1977)ir Romas (1897-1948) Jievaltai iš Mediniškių k. Biržų raj., išgelbėjo Dorą (Dvorą) Levitan (Manienė), 2016 m. apdovanoti Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžiumi.
Kazimiera (1896-1967) ir Kazimieras (1873-1945) Balčiūnai bei jų dukra Genovaitė Balčiūnaitė-Grubinskienė (1929-2016) iš Jaunučių k. Biržų raj., išgelbėję Abelį Levitaną, Doros Levitan (Manienės) sūnų, 2016 m. apdovanoti Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžiumi.

Veronika (1889-1972) ir Jurgis (1881-1968) Naktiniai, gyvenę Slyžių k., Papilio apylinkėje, Biržų raj., išgelbėję Reginą (Rachilę) Rozenbergaitę iš Subačiaus (Kupiškio r.), 2012 m. apdovanoti Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžiumi.
Emilija (1881-1975) ir Juozas (1882-1975) Giedrikai iš Vabalninko, Biržų raj., slėpę Šeiną ir Chaimą Gertnerius, 2007 m. apdovanoti Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžiumi.
Eugenijus Davidonis (1924-203) iš Jasiškių k. Nemunėlio Radviliškio valsč. Biržų raj., drauge su mama Petronėle Davidoniene išgelbėjo Eleonorą Levinšteinaitę (Lena Nosova). Petronėlė Davidonienė įsidukrino Eleonorą, kuri Davidonių šeimoje gyveno nuo 1941 m. iki 1954 m. Eugenijus Davidonis 1999 m. apdovanotas Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžiumi.
Jadvyga Šušytė-Pančkauskienė (1914-201) biržietė, anglų k. mokytoja, II Pasaulinio Karo metais mokėsi Kaune ir įvairiais būdais padėjo Kauno gete įkalintiems žydams. Jos atminimas įamžintas Biržų žydų istorijos ir kultūros draugijos sprendimu.
*Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžius – Lietuvos valstybės apdovanojimas. Juo Lietuvos Respublikos Prezidento dekretu apdovanojami asmenys, kurie, nepasydami gresiančio aiškaus pavojaus savo gyvybei, pasižymėjo gelbėdami žūvančius žmones.

Remembrance square

On 16 June 2019 a square was erected here, on the territory of the previous Biržai ghetto, to commemorate the names of Biržai district citizens who were courageous in the face of death and rescued the Jews from the Holocaust – one of the most terrible tragedies of the 20th century. The square had been erected by the descendants of the rescuers before the memorial in Pakamponys forest, Biržai district, was unveiled to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust.
Abel and Glenda Levitt from Israel initiated the erection of the Memorial and planting the trees on the Remembrance square.
Remembrance trees were planted to commemorate:
Akvilina (1910-1995) and Eduardas (1903-1991) Valantinėliai, who lived in Dvaroniškis farmstead, Biržai district, and raised four children: Elvyra, Stasė, Algimantas and Rimantas. From 1941 to 1943 they hid Motelis Levitanas in their house.
Akvilina and Eduardas, their daughters Regina Stasė Kežienė and Elvyra Čyžauskienė were awarded the Life Saving Cross* in 2015.

Emilija (1981 [should be 1881]-1975) and Juozas (1882-1975) Giedrikai who lived in Vabalninkas, Biržai district, and his Šeina and Chaimas Gertneriai, were awarded the Life Saving Cross in 2007.
Eugenijus Davidonis (1924-2003) who lived in Jasiškiai village, Nemunėlio Radviškis county, Biržai district, and together with his mother Petronėlė Davidonienė rescued Eleonora Levinšteinaitė (Lena Nosova). Petronėlė Davidonienė adopted Elenora who lived with Davidoniai from 1941 till 1954. Eugenijus Davidonis was awarded the Life Saving Cross in 1999.
Jadvyga Šušytė-Pančkauskienė (1914-2018) who was from Biržai, an English language teacher. During World War II she studied in Kaunas and numerous ways helped the Jews who were imprisoned in Kaunas Ghetto. She is commemorated by the decision of the Association of Biržai Jews‘ History and Culture.
* The Life Saving Cross is Lithuanian State Award. It is by the decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania to people who, despite the imminent danger to their lives, were rescuing people that were in real danger.
