Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Corfu, who perished in the Holocaust. 

Description:

The memorial is located in the Western Alley of the cemetery in Holon, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations. 

The memorial features classical architectural elements, including a triangular pediment, a frieze, and two round columns. An urn stands in between two columns. Behind the columns, there are two steles. The left one is inscribed in Hebrew and Greek and the right one, according to the inscription on it, bears a depiction of Corfu's synagogue. At the bottom of the steles, there are architecturally designed memorial candle holders.

The memorial sits on a raised platform with steps.  In the front of the steps, there is a row of short pillars connected by chains. 

The monument bears Hebrew and Greek inscriptions that honor the memory of the community. The community name is emphasized through the use of a larger font size. One of the inscriptions indicates that the monument contains the ashes of the Jewish victims.

Translation: To the Jews of Corfu who did not merit a grave in Israel

נותרנו יהודי קורפו בארץ ישראל
ובתפוצות אחרי השואה אין בית
ואין משפחה שאחד מרבים ובניה לא
הומתו במתות משונות ע"י הצוררים
