Who is Commemorated?

The Jews of Byteń, Poland (today Bytsen, Belarus) who perished in the Holocaust. 

Description:

The memorial is located in the Western Alley of the cemetery in Holon, along with dozens of other Holocaust memorials built by Landsmannschaft organizations. 

The memorial is a light-colored stone obelisk with a black plaque mounted on it. The obelisk is set on the platform. There are holders for memorial candles at the bottom of the obelisk.

Inscription:

On the black plaquein Hebrew: 

לזכר קדושי קהילת
בִּיטֵן
והסביבה
שנרצחו בשואה בידי הנאצים ועוזריהם ימ"ש
אב-אלול תש"ב
תשרי תש"ג
יולי-ספטמבר 1942 

Translation: To the memory of the holy members of the community/ Byteń [written in large letters with vocalization signs]/and the surroundings /who were murdered in the Holocaust by the Nazis and their collaborators, May their names be obliterated/ Av-Elul 5702 [1942]/ Tishrei-5703 [1942] /September to July 1942

At the front of the platform, in Hebrew: 

פה טמון עפר

מגיא ההריגה בביטן 

Translation: Here lies earth brought from the killing fields in Bitan.

On plaque attached to the upper part of the platform, in Hebrew: 

                                       זכרם לא ימוש מקרבנו

Translation: Their memory will not be erased from our midst
