Sacred and Ritual Objects Hanging oil lamp, Saluzzo, 1851-1899
The silver hanging lamp consists of a body and a hanger.##The main section of the body is cylindrical and expanding and is mounted over a concave bottom. An acorn like apex is attached at its end.
A vase like cylindrical neck is mounted over the main section. The main section, the bottom and the neck are decorated by various rows of acanthus leaves. The lower row of the main section and the lower row of the neck bear a dedicatory inscription.
The lamp is hanging by three chains from a coronet like canopy and they are inserted through voluted handles decorated with flowers and floral branches. The chains are composed of oval links of different sizes. The canopy is decorated by a row of leaves and is topped by a ring. The dedicatory inscription of the main section is repousse' in full letters within three different frames in the shape of a cartouche and reads: נדב והקדש%כמר)כבוד מורנו רבי( אברהם סגרי%להרור)?( בית הכנסת !Donated and dedicated%by our honourable teacher Rabbi(int.) Abraham Segre%to light(?) the synagogue! The dedicatory inscription of the neck is engraved in linear letters and reads: נר של בית כנסת בסאלוצו%מתנת קהילת טורינו%למנ')וחת( סלי מאיר ז!ל)זכרונו לברכה( תשט!ז !
