Hebrew Illuminated Manuscripts Samaritan Illustration, Nablus (Shechem), circa 1900
© Gross Family Collection, Photographer: Unknown, -
The following description was prepared by William Gross:
The form of the Tabernacle and its vessels were drawn on paper, according to the Samaritan rite. [Early 20th century].
Single leaf, with colorful illustrations of the Tabernacle and its vessels. Some of the illustrations appear with descriptions, written in Samaritan script, others are decorated with gold ink.
One of the Samaritan traditions is to draw and paint representations of the Temple implements. The presentations are done in a most attractive manner and are almost always very colorful. Illustrated are all the implements in use by the priests in the Temple and the whole is contained in a rather abstract depiction of the Temple building.
