Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah shield, Turin, 1787-1793
The Tas is made of silver and consists of a front plate a back plate a chain and a hanger.
The front plate is in the shape of a cartouche and has a dentated rim. The borders of the cartouche are decorated with floral branches and volutes. An oval medallion is in the center of the plaque and it bears an inscription on a scalop pattern. The inscription is repousse'in full letters and reads: ספר שני ! Second book!. ##The medallion is framed by a dotted stripe.The cartouche is surmounted by a coronet whose base bears a dedicatory inscription. The coronet has a floral wreath. The front plate is hung by two chains to the hanger.
The hanger is in the shape of two ovals and it is decorated with leaves. It is attached to the back plates by three chains. The back plate is oval and has a dentated rim decorated with a wreath. On centre the plate is decorated by a scalop pattern and it bears the same inscription as the front plaque. The dedicatory inscription is repousse' in full letters and reads: מרדכי סגרי בכמ!ר ) ב כבוד מורנו רבי( נתנאל התקנ!ז ! Mordekhai Segre the son of our honourable teacher Rabbi Natanel 5557(=1797)!
