Description
This monument, located at the entrance to the Jardin des Doms, is focused around a marble statue of a woman, who represents Remembrance. Despite this being a war memorial, she has no war-like attributes. flanking her on either side are two bas-reliefs depicting the burial of a French Infantryman by his comrades, as well as the Spirit of Victory. Beneath Remembrance's feet is a coat of arms, and above her are the years 1914 and 1918, as well as the phrase 'a nos morts' (to our dead). the years 1939, 1945, 1954, and 1962 appear above the bas-reliefs but were not a part of the original monument.
On the back of the monument, the spirit of Sorrow is depicted as a woman kneeling before a dead soldier.
