  Jewish cemetery in Kozyn, Ukraine

© ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, Photographer: ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, 2019

According to ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, the exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. Since it appears on Russian topographic map of 1889 it can be assumed that the cemetery already existed in the late 19th century. The cemetery was not marked on the later maps of 1939. According to locals it was destroyed during the Soviet era. The only preserved tombstone dates to 1898. Tombstones were found in Spring 2019, during the demolition of the house on 6 Shkilna Street. According to locals, human bones were uncovered during the construction of the road, confirming the existence of the cemetery on the site.
