Jewish Funerary Art Site of the Jewish cemetery in Sarny, Ukraine
According to ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, the exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. But since it appears on a Russian map from the 1880s and a Polish map from the 1910s it can be assumed that the cemetery already existed during that period. The cemetery was also mentioned in Yizkor memorial book of Sarny issued in 1961 and marked on its map. According to locals, the cemetery was demolished in the late Soviet period. The site is now occupied by "Mriya" stadium. There are some fragments resembling tombstones piled in the grove on its western side. Part of the site is now used as a garbage dump. The tombstone with Polish inscription was also found - most probably, from the Catholic cemetery, which was located adjacent to the Jewish one and was also demolished.
