Funerary Art Jewish cemetery in Verkhnii Rohachyk, Ukraine
According to ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, the exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. Given that the oldest preserved tombstone dates to the mid 19th century, it can be gathered the cemetery was founded in that era. It cannot be found marked on old maps of the region.
There are 5 tombstones on the site. Only one stone has an inscription in Hebrew. The only readable date on a tombstone is 1866. According to locals, the gravestones were dismantled for construction use.
The cemetery is located at the south west of the village. From No.16 Chkalov Street drive southwest for 130m, then turn right and drive along the dirt road for 255m. Turn right and then drive for 300m, the cemetery will be on the left, marked by a hump 80m from the path.
