The square parokhet is inscribed with a dedication divided into two by a central Star of David enclosing the word "Zion", which is part of the dedication. It is flanked by chandeliers suspended from a foliate hanger. Four additional stars are set at each corner, whereas a crescent and a star (hilal) are on the central bottom part.
The Hebrew dedication is embroidered in square linear letters, and reads:
"A parokhet (dedicated) for the holy ark of the Gafsa Synagogue (see: Remarks: no. 1), may the Sublime establish it, amen. 'I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved (Ps. 16:8). ''For they shall see eye to eye when the Lord shall bring again Zion' (Isa. 52:8). Dedicated for the exaltation of the soul of the wise and faithful, the judge (dayan) and teacher, our honourable teacher the Rabbi Hai Cohen (see: Remarks: no. 2), the righteous of blessed memory, may his virtue protect us, amen."
