Techunat ha-Shamayim by Raphael Levi me-Hannover, Amsterdam, 1756

© Gross Family Collection, Photographer: Unknown,

This text was prepared by William Gross:

A guide to the scientific aspects of Maimonides' "Hilchot Kiddush ha-Chodesh" (Laws of Sanctification of the New Moon). By Rabbi Raphael HaLevi of Hannover. Levi was an interesting amalgam of two worlds: He excelled in his traditional yeshiva education in Frankfurt a.M., yet was also closely associated with the philosopher Leibnitz for many years. See S. Feiner, The Jewish Enlightenment (2004), pp. 41-42.
This first edition book contains numerous diagrams, tables and texts for calculating the proper dates and times of the seasons and years.
Editor: Moshe ben Yekutiel me-Tiktin
