Sacred and Ritual Hevra Kadisha comb, 1764
The rectangular comb is composed of one unit with teeth on either side. Each end bears a flower with a scroll on either side of it. The center of the comb bears an inscription on either side in square linear letters. The first side reads
: !טוב שם משמן טוב ויום המות/מיום היולדו [קהלת 7:1] /זאת נדב צבי הרש /ב!ר [=בן רבי] משה ז!ל [=זכרונו לברכה] שנת תקכ!ג לפ!ק!
Translation: A good name is better than precious ointment and the day of death than the day one's birth (Ecc. 7:1). This was donated by Zvi Hirsch son of Rabbi Moshe may he rest in peace the year [5]523= (1763)!.
The inscription on the second side reads:
!בכל עת יהיו בגדיך לבנים ושמן/על ראשך אל יחסר [קהלת 9:8]
Translation: Let thy garments be always white and let thy head lack no ointment (Ecc. 9;8)!.

of Brno.
