Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah shield (1867) from the An-ski collection
The Torah shield is rectangular and topped with a semi-circular arch.
The Torah shield is decorated with foliate ornament. The top of the Torah shield bears a depiction of a crown marked with Hebrew letters כ and ת that stand for Hebrew words "Torah crown".
The Torah shield bears a medallion in its center with an inscription in Hebrew.
The inscription reads:
קודש
ליהוה
--
ז"נ [=זאת נדבת] ר' שמואל
בר [=בן ר'] יוסף
Dedicated
to Lord
--
This is a donation of r. Shmuel
son of r. Yosef
To the right from the medallion, there is an inscription. It reads: שנת "year."
To the left from the medallion, there is an inscription. It reads: תרכז that stand for the year 627.
Below the medallion, there is a ligature that stands for לפרט קטן - "minor era".
"Year 627 according to the minor era" (1867)
