Torah crown, Vienna or Graz, 1896

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Radovan, Zev, 27.4.1994
The silver two leveled Torah crown consists of a main part, a crest and an apex. Each part is composed of a base and arms. The base is composed of a circumferal band decorated with a pattern of alternating round green glass and oval red glass inserts. Below the coloured glass is a circumferal dedicatory inscription inscribed in square filled letters: "ז"נ)זו נדבת( כ"ה)כבוד הרב(לייב בן כ"ה חיים יאביטשעק ואת אשתו מ)מרת( לאה ע"ה)עליה השלום( בת מהר"ר)מורנו הרב רבי( אברהם חאללאק ואת בנם ה"ב)הבחור( חיים בהשלמות שלש עשרה שנה ביום א' דר"ח)ראש חודש( מרחשון שנת ת'ר'נ'ו לפ"ק" "This is the donation of the honorable Rabbi Leib son of the honorable Rabbi Haim Iabitshek, and his wife Mrs., Lea, may she rest in peace, daughter of our teacher the Rabbi R. Avraham Hallak and their son the youth Haim at the completion of thirteen years, on sunday the first day of the month of Marheshvan, the year (5)656 (=1896)" Six arms rise up from the base above each of the red glass inserts. They are decorated in the upper and lower parts with a net pattern and a row of flowers framed by C scrolls. The arms are joined together on top by the crest which repeats the shape and decoration of the main part and which is surmounted by a globular apex.
