The central theme of this painting is based on Leeds Chapel Town Synagogue, which has now become a dance school. It is the middle of the story, which starts with the Jews coming over from Eastern Europe in the late 1800’s and moves in to the Leylands which was the slum part of Leeeds. Their journey continues to Chapel Town and then to Moortown and Aldwoodley where they are today. It’s the story of social mobility.
