Gottlieb, The Rescue of Recha from the Flames

© Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Photographer: Unknown,
The whole painting is made in grisai technique, in gray tones. The scene takes place on the front stairs of a building that seems to be a moorish palace, that smoke is coming out of his windows and doors. At the center of the picture a bearded young warrior is carrying in his arms a young beautiful woman. Behind him an older woman is seen, and another unfocused figure. Another figure appears on the right background, behind an open door in the building. The big man is wearing a light robe with a cross painted on the chest over embroidered sleeves. The long haired, young woman is wearing a cap and a dress and a scarf over it. The older woman is wearing a long robe over a striped cloth, walking down the stairs, below the sharpened arches, clasping her hands. Behind the couple is the entrance of the building: a bicolored moorish arch from which comes smoke, as well as from the window on the right. At the right background a bearded igure is sitting in a room which has a dome and a tower over it, behind an open window.
