Modern Jewish Art
  Zaltsman, Counter. Cut faces

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Radovan, Zev, 07.1995
Six faces are placed in two rows one above another. They look as though they were cut out and sticked to the surface of the painting. In the lower row there are two women and a man between them. A young woman with long dark hair and open shoulders is shown to the left. The upper part of her head and the arms are cut. She is depicted in a three-quarter turn to the left and looks a little bit upwards smiling. The man in the center wears brown dress and his broad face with coarse features have the same brownish colour. There is a kind of triangular hat on his head. The face of the second woman is shown in a three-quarter turn to the left. The upper and the right parts of the face are cut. Her hair parted in the middle is grey and there are the same grey and blue hues in her face. In the upper row there are one woman (to the left) and two men. The young woman is shown frontally. She has brown hair and a kind of pink turban on her head. The man in the center faces left. His head crowned with a tall white hat is plundged into blue colour as thought lighted by a floodlight. The face of the last man cut from the right side is topped with a triangular white hat. He looks leftwards. In the intervals between the figures there are coloured stripes and geometrical forms reminding of buildings.
