Modern Jewish Art Inger, Me and the Baker, illustration for "The Little Boy Motl" by Sholem-Aleihem
A tall figure of the baker occupies the left foreground while the tiny figure of Motl, standing at the bakery, is depicted in the lower right part of the painting.
The ginger bearded baker stands frontally with his short hands pressed to his belly. He has protruding ears, small eyes and a thin nose and wears a black rimmed hat and wide trousers.
A facade of the bakery with three windows, a door and a brown smoke coming out from the chimney is drawn with several lines. A large sign of the
bakery is attached to the upper right corner of the building. Motl stands
in profile under the sign looking rightwards. He has a large protruding ear and a large eye, and wears a black-and-white checked hat, a tallith with
stripes and short trousers. The ground is painted with stripes of blue,
red, yellow and green colors. There is also a blue sky with white clouds.
