Modern Jewish Art Akselrod, Stage design for "Tevye the Dairyman" by Sholem-Aleikhem

The painting represents a scene design. Behind the blue bent portal one can see a view of a village. The house of Tevye occupies the right part. Slanting poles support the green roofs of the house and of the porch.
The house has a circular entrance and small square windows. A low hurdle adjoin the house from the right. To the left there is another house with two storried terrace and dark brown roofs. In the distance there is a wattled fencing
with jars put on the poles. A shtetl scattered on several hills is seen on the background. The upper part of the scene is concealed with a curtain which bears a yiddish inscription:
