A Jew of about fifty is depicted on the picture. His head occupying almost the whole plane of the composition, is shown full face. His tragic look is directed to the viewer. His black eyebrows, big black pupils, lit long straight nose, grey wedge-like beard and moustaches are accentuated on his exhausted face with hollow cheeks. The Jew has a black religious cap on his head and a goldish jabot-collar round his neck. His face is lit with a reddish light on the right-hand side and with a goldish light on the left-hand side.
