Modern Jewish Art
  Sidur, Prophet (The Organ-grinder)

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Tartakovsky, Sergey, 11.1992
The work represents a sculptural assemblage. It reminds at the same time of a tower with a man, closed in it and looking out of it, and of a human figure. A wooden box without a back wall is put upon large wall-clocks with a broken mechanism. To the box the sculptor has attached a rectangular radiator, which resembles some kind of instrument: a barrel-organ or an accordion. A plate of corrugated tin is put into the box. A flat round aluminium mask, reminding of the masks found in the tombs in Miceane, is attached to this plate. Two hands, fastened before the face-mask, reach out for us. They remind the blew up rubber gloves. The fingers are spread wide. On the top of the box stands a radiator or a transformer of bell-like form, which represents some kind of a head.
