Sacred and Ritual Objects Mercedes Class Goblet, 2008
The Kiddush goblet for a bride and groom by Amir Friedman is made using a valve from a Mercedes car. Friedman's choice of a readymade element has a fundamental significance, for the object continues to bear its original significances inherently, even though it had already been removed from its original context. Friedman's choice of this material raises some eyebrows with regard to the way in which mundane objects are used for ritual and accumulate their holiness.
