A private residence (dated ca. 1930), designed by the architect G. J. Rutgers, was redeveloped by A. Oznowicz as a synagogue for the Jewish community Kehillas Jaäkov. The synagogue was consecrated for religious services in the year 1967.
The Eastern-European Jewish community previously held their services at a former store along the Swammerdamstraat.
