Aron Haas Synagogue in Almelo, The Netherlands

© Willy Lindwer, Photographer: Lindwer, Willy, 2002

The Synagogue of Almelo with its straightforward building layout was dedicated in 1980. The Torah ark copper lanterns, Hanukkah menorah and chandelier were taken from the nineteenth-century synagogue located at the Schalderoistraat which was demolished after the Second World War.

The current building is no longer in use as a synagogue and was transformed into a senior community center called Wijksteunpunt Beth TriviumMeulenbeltZorg (TMZ) [visit their website] in 2013. The Star of David, as a reference to the former synagogue, can still be seen above the main entrance of the building.
