Jewish Architecture Synagogue in Nagykanizsa, Hungary
The synagogue is a monumental Neo-Classicist structure built in 1821. Its layout is based on a cross-in-square scheme, while the prayer hall is spanned by a sail vault. An additional tier, a women’s gallery, was added in 1928 by a prominent architect, Lipót Baumhorn. Currently (2018) the synagogue is in use and houses a Jewish museum. A Holocaust memorial was constructed in front of the synagogue.
