Sacred and Ritual Objects  Torah shield

The silver Torah shield is rectangular and terminates with a semicircular arch. It consists of a plate. In the center are depicted the Tablets of the Covenant inscribed with the opening words of the Decalouge, five on each side. The tables are flanked by the figures of Aaron on right and of Moses on left (12538). Surmounting the Tablets is a cartouche with flowers extending from it's border, it bears an inscription written in square filled letters and it reads: "י-ה-ו-ה"## "YHVE" Flowering branches extend from the cartouche. A surmounting crown is located in the arch. It consists of a foliate and openwork oval pattern. Two similar, smaller crowns flank the cartouche. Two spiral columns flank the lower motif. Their square bases consist of a tablet flower surmounting an inscription of the date written in square outline letters. It reads from the right: "תקס ## לפק"## "[5]560 (1800)" The tablets are mounted over a blank rectangular cartouche. A beaded band frames the the shield. There are three holes for a hanging chain, located at each upper corner and at the top of the arch.
