Fine Art Ex libris of Frida Flaum
According to Esther Raizen, "Turning the Tables: Truda Schein as a Foil Character in Dov Kimhi's On The Seven Seas," Nashim: A Journal of Jewish Women's Studies & Gender Issues (2024):
"A faded bookplate from the library of Frieda (Schlomith) Flaum (1893–1963) shows a woman sitting on a balcony, her elbow leaning on the railing, chin resting on her palm, looking toward the horizon with great longing. The horizon is a vision of Jerusalem, with the Dome of the Rock, the city wall and the Tower of David; cypress trees framing a field are closer, almost touching the balcony. A toddler, walking toward the woman, arms extended as if asking for a hug, receives no attention—she is pensive, utterly absorbed in what lies far away. The year is 1911, and the artist is Artur Galliner (1878–1961), a German Jewish painter and teacher who worked at the time at the Philanthropin Jewish elementary school and gymnasium in Frankfurt. Frieda Flaum, an eighteen-year-old kindergarten teacher, was his colleague at Philanthropin, and 1911 was the year she left for Palestine." (published here with permission from the author.)
