Sacred and Ritual Objects Hanukkah lamp
The hanging Hanukkah^lamp consists of oil containers and a back wall. A row of eight round oil containers with spouts is fastened to the lower side of the back wall. The bottom of the arched openwork back wall is decorated with a face of a lion carrying a basket of fruit, in the center. One satyr supports the basket on either side, each holding one handle of the basket in one hand and a branch of scrolls in the other . A fountain-like vase with leaves, surmounts the basket. It is flanked on each side by a cornucopia with flowers and fruits. Two winged putti are set on top of the cornucopia and flank the vase on either side. Each putto hase a foliate lower body. On top of the vase is the crowned face of a putto, surmounted by a petal- shaped projection with a hole at the top. The putto's face is situated between the open mouths of two dragons which surmount the winged putti. Two bare-breasted sphinx, facing outwards are set on the lower far right and far left sides of the back wall. Each sphinx holds in her hand an open-mouthed mask in profile. The bottom edge of the back wall is bordered by a band decorated an egg-and-dart molding. A small rectangular piece of metal, perhaps used for hanging, projects from the back wall. :MED : Metal:DCR : Sphinxes##Putti ##CornucopiaMask SatyrDragon:MH : 160mm:MWI : 220mm (back wall) ## 25mm (candle sockets):MDE : 50mm:MAT : Brass##Structure: cast ##Bonding: Oil containers attached to the back wall with ears fastened by pins##:REM : For similar menorah see Narkiss, M.
