  Wooden Synagogue in Pilica, Poland

The synagogue was built in the middle of the 18th century (The date 1747 in inscription above the entrance, and murals from 1816, according to Piechotka, M., and K. Piechotka, Bramy Nieba: Bóznice drewniane, p. 311). 

The elongated rectangular (13,3 x 21,5 m) prayer hall was covered by two row of cross vaults.  

 

    The vaults of the synagogue was decorated with ornate cartouches, floral ornaments and stars. Images of zodiac signs were placed in pendantives of  vault along the perimeter of prayer hall.
