Jewish Architecture Wooden Synagogue in Yabluniv (Jabłonów), Ukraine
The synagogue was built in the second half of the 17th cent. The oldest date from the inscriptions – 1674. There were many fragments of murals with different dates: 1684, 1688, 1707, 1721, 1727 (according to Wierzbicki, L., Bóznica w miasteczku Jabłonowie nad Prutem ) The building were many time renovated, and was burned in time of the First World war.
The bulk of the building with prayer hall is almost square in plan (11 x 9,8), covered with a flat ceiling. The galleries are connected to the building from the west façade of the building.
The murals of the eastern and the western walls are divided into three horizontal levels. Upper - the frieze, decorated with images of animals, birds, urban buildings. Medium - consists of vertical text panels, framed by architectural ornamentation, usually in the form of a portal. Lower level - is a broad ornamental band and continuous band of arches on which are inscribed the names of the owners of places along the walls. All text tables are separated by a wide ornamental strip (borders) with a variety of floral and geometric patterns. The murals of the southern and northern walls are divided into two horizontal levels without upper frieze.
