  Synagogue in Bydgoszcz-Fordon, Poland

© Virtual Shtetl, Photographer: Dudek, Marcin, 2008

The synagogue was built circa 1770. During WWII the Germans converted it into a cinema, which functioned until 1988. In the 1970s the plan was to convert the building into a culture center. At present it is in ruin. In 2005 the synagogue was transferred free of charge to the Yakiza Cultural Foundation. After the renovation the plan is to organize an alternative art gallery there.

The synagogue building is in the neoclassical style. The main prayer room is covered with the ceiling reinforced with binding joists, which are supported with four pillars. On the eastern wall the recess has been preserved, where the Aron Ha-Kodesh used to be kept.
