Modern Jewish Art
   Pann (Pfeffermann), Orpah (Ruth 1:4)

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Radovan, Zev,

Orpa, a young oriental girl with big wide eyes and a dark complexion is sitting as if posing for a portrait. She is wearing an open dress made of wool with a a low neckline that would expose her cleavage if it weren't for her neck and chest being covered by a scarf. She has many jewels on the front of her dress and on her hands. The most interesting element in her whole outfit is her strange and unfamiliar head-gear that resembles two conical shaped objects adorned with golden coins. The background of the picture is dark and there seems to be a palm tree in the distance.
