Modern Jewish Art
Pann (Pfeffermann), Rachel and baby Joseph

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Radovan, Zev,

Inside a dark tent on a bed of straw, Rachel is looking at her newborn baby. She is covered with a woolen blanket, her hands covered with bracelets, and she wears long earrings. Her face seems to be glowing in a special light that comes from the baby near her. The baby is covered in a similar blanket so only his head is showing. He has a large head that is completely bald and a face with lovely delicate features.
