Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah mantle, Hungary, 1935
The Torah^mantle is made in white crouchet technique. The rectangular cloth cloak is made of one part and is attached at one side and at the upper border, leaving two openings for Torah Scroll rods. The cloth bears a dedicatory inscription topped by a Torah crown. Tt is flanked by an inscripton: כ % ת "Crown of Torah (int.)" The tablets of the covenant appear on the lower part bearing the first ten Hebrew letters: א-י The cloth is framed by a floral and foliate patterns. The dedicatory inscription is knitted in outline letters and reads:
לכבוד התורה##עשתה בידיה##האשה מרת##יהודית תרצ"ה לפק
"In the honour of the Torah##it was handmade by##the woman Mrs.##Judith (5)695=(1935)"
The back side is decorated by a seven^branched^menorah in the centre, and a star^of^David in the upper part. The cloth is framed by a foliate pattern. An inscription appears above the menorah reading:##"Stern Shmune" The Torah mantle has a light blue lining.
