Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah shield (Hungary, 1867-1930)
The tas is made of silver and consists of a plate, a crest and a chain. The plate is in the shape of a cartouche. The borders are decorated with scrolls. It is decorated with two cylindrical, grooved columns with spiralling foliage rising over round pedestals. The columns are topped by round capitals. Between them are two rampant lions looking forwards. They support the five-and-five Tables of the Covenant. The place for the calendar tablet is rectangular. The lower section is decorated with flowerd lattice pattern, and has a cartouche bearing a dedicatory inscription. A crest in the shape of a lobed and beaded crown is attached to the plate. There is an apex. The plate is hung by a chain which is inserted into three rings attached to the back of the plate. The dedicatory inscription is engraved in linear, outline letters, and reads:
