Modern Jewish Art
Pann (Pfeffermann), The First Baby/The Offering

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Radovan, Zev,

A scene of Adam and Eve with young Cain are the central focus of this page. Around them are scenes from the story of Cain and Abel and the offerings. Abel is depicted three times with a lamb on his shoulders.  On the left side of the page another man can be seen - Cain, looking down at the dying fire of his offering which was not accepted. If the page is turned upside-down, two more scenes can be seen: a man holding a lamb next to his face lovingly and to his left a man holding a child in his arms.
