Jewish Architecture  Community Building with Reform synagogue in Lutsk, Ukraine

A masonry building of the Jewish “society” was situated there already in 1895. The present building was erected in an Art Nouveau style by a Kiev architect, Abram Trachtenberg (1875–1919), in 1908–14, as a state-sponsored Jewish school. However, in the interwar period the building served as the offices of the official Jewish community. Nowadays, it again serves the Jewish Community of Lutsk. The building includes the functioning Reform synagogue, located in the southwestern corner of the first floor. The direction of prayer in this synagogue is southward.

The Community Building in Khmelnytskoho 6 (former Sienkiewicza, in 1942 – Lesi Ukrainky. Khmelnytskoho from 1954) was designed by Trachtenberg in 1908. Sergey Shvardovskii (haim.70@mail.ru)  said that the building is dated 1896-1908. Officially, it was designed as a professional school of craft.
