Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah mantle, Turkey, 1948
מזכרת נצח . הקדש לעילוי נשמת איש ההגנה נסים בן גו'יה עזיז הי!ד שנפל בהגנת המולדת כ!ב כסלו תש!ח בן י!ט לחיים The purple velvet Torah^mantle consists of a cloak and a top. The rectangular cloth cloak is attached to the top and opens in its lower part. The cloth bears a central stylized and symmetrical vegetal pattern with a eight points star and a flower in the center. Four wreath of flowers attached by a ribbon and with lozenge leaves filled with a network pattern are set at the corners. They are intercalated by four steams with flowers. Two rows of floral scrolls are set at the lower and upper parts of the cloth. The central pattern is flanked by a dedicatory inscription in filled square letters that reads: !Eternal memorial/ dedicated for the exaltation of the soul of / the 'Hagganah's' man/ Nissim son of Gioia Assis may the Lord avenge his blood/ that fall in defense to the homeland/ 22 kislev 5708(=1948)!. A ribbon with a fringe is attached to the cloak's border. The hard oval top is made of wood and covered with a cloth. It has two openings at its centre for the Torah scroll rods.
