© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Laor, Liora, 03.1995

The entire Book of Zechariah is written in horror-vacui style in 93 lines occupying the entire sheet. The text is written in small dense letters in cursive script of varying size incorporating illustrations. The first ten lines (1:1- 2:16) are straight and grow larger while lines 9-63 (2:16- 11:3) decline towards the end. Lines 30-35 (5:9-6:15) are written in densly packed lines. Lines 64-90 (11:4-14:13) are relatively straight while the last four lines of the text (14:16-21) are vaulted, leaving a small empty space beneath the writing. The prophet`s name (1:1) on the first line is written in bold large cursive script letters while the rest of the first line and on the third line (1:7) the text is written in block, well-spaced letters. "זכריה" On the fifth line the word between the words "through" and "the earth" (1:11) is crossed out with the words "a man with a bold line." Also on the fifth line, after the words "a man with a measuring line in his hand (2:5)," there is a drawing of a man holding a rope in his hands. An empty space on the 21st line marks the end of Zechariah 3 and the begining of Zechariah 4. At the begining of the 22nd line, the words "Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit, saith" (Zechariah 4:6) are punctutated and written in large, bold, well-spaced letters. "לא בחיל ולא בכח כי אם ברוחי אמר" On the 25th line after the words "I see a flying scroll" (Zechariah 5:2) a scroll is drawn along two lines. On line 35 Zechariah 7 begins with an empty space and the name "Zechariah" is written in bold well-spaced letters. "זכריה" On the 41st line, the words "Jerusalem city of truth" (Zechariah 8:3) are written in bold block letters. On line 43, the word "east" (Zecharaih 8:7) is written in bold, large letters. "ירושלם עיר האמת", "מזרח" At the end of the 48th line, the word, "peace" (8:12) and "prosperous" in KJ) are written in large letters. On line 49, the word "in Jerusalem" is written in large, bold, block letters (8:22). "שלום", "בירושלם" The word "burden" at the begining of line 50 is written in large bold letters signifying the beginning of Zechariah 9. "משא" On line 51, after the words "eyes of men" (Zechariah 9:1), written in bold letters, an eye is drawn. The letter Zadi in the words "Tyrus and Zidon" on line 51 protrudes. Line 61 ends with an empty space. "עין אדם", "צור וצידון" Zechariah 11 begins on line 62 with the words "Open thy doors, O Lebanon" (11:1), written in broad block letters. On the same line, beside the word "fir" a cypruss tree is drawn, and a cedar is drawn by the word "cedar" (11:2). "פתח לבנון דלתיך", "ברוש", "ארז" There is an empty space at the end of line 69 between the end of Zechariah 11 and the begining of Zechariah 12. At the begining of line 82, the word "ravished" (Zechariah 14:2) is written in large bold cursive letters. On the same line the word between the words "from" and "the city" is crossed out by a bold line. "תשגלנה" There is an empty space at the beginning of line 89 (14:12). On the same line, the word between the words "their flesh shall consume away" is crossed out.
