  Sgan-Cohen, Psalm 72

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Laor, Liora, 03.1995

Psalm 72 is written at the center of the sheet in large, bold, dense cursive letters in 22 lines in the shape of a seven-branched Menorah. The word "for Solomon" (72:1) is written in block letters above the second and third branches. "לשלמה" Verses 1-6 ("O God...the mown grass"). Each of the seven branches of the Menorah is comprised of five lines from the words "unto king's son" (72:10) comprising the first line of the last two branches, which are written in larger letters than the other branches "לבן מלך" Lines 6-22 are written in the shape of an inverted trapeziod. Line 6 is written in small letters (72: 6-7)and a word is crossed-out at the beginning of line 7 before the words "as the moon endureth" (Psalms 72-7). Lines 12-22 are written in larger, well-spaced letters and lines. In line 15 the letter Ayin in the word "shall shake" ( 72:16) extends into the next two lines. "ירעש" At the begining of line 19, the word before "who only" (72:18) is crossed out. There is a gap between line 21 and line 22, the bottom line, which suggest a base. A Hebrew inscription is written on the reverse side of the sheet in cursive Hebrew letters on two lines in the lower right: "72, 10 June 1979, Death day of Raffi Reiffer." "ע"ב 01 ביוני 9791 יום מותו של רפי רייפר"
